I keep getting a problem when using Dreamweaver Find and Replace – whilst modifying certain PHP files, but mainly with wordpress.

It has become apparent, that the crappy software decides to some how add spaces all over the shop like some random crack head, So if you go to your PHP / WordPress Plugin / WordPress Theme and get this error:

The plugin generated 2 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “headers already sent” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin.

The not to worry! Chances are you’ve got some white space / spaces after the closing php tag!

For those who have been tinkering and are not certain what a closing PHP tag is then this is it:

?php>

Anyway, I hope that fixed your problem

After waiting 5 minutes and realising that it wasn’t going back up I remote FTP’d to the folder and found a .maintenance file.

The best way to fix wordpress after this error is to just delete the file: .maintenance

After that, visit your blog again – It’ll tell you that you’re required to update your WordPress Database, click “Do it now!” and off you go – back online and ready to roll!

Recently I’ve been struggling with using reCaptcha with Gravity forms, mainly in regards to using the sidebar and the captcha, gravityforms only as default allows you to use the standard reCaptcha themes, this is a short but sweet “How to” to be able to totally customise the reCatcha appearance with Gravity Forms.

Find form_detail.php

Goto line number: 581

You Should Have:

<?php _e("Clean", "gravityforms"); ?>

After Paste This:

<?php _e("custom", "gravityforms"); ?>

Edit your form, and select “custom” as the theme.

Then add an HTML “Field” and paste the code that’s required to display the reCaptcha, ie:

Recently, from version 3 and onwards WordPress has included or bundled a load of javascript with it, this is found in: wp-includes/js/

This list includes scripts such as

jQuery

scriptaculous

hoverIntent

prototype

colorpicker

json

swfobject

and more.

Unfortunately WordPress is forcing everyone to use jQuery version 1.4.2 with abit of a ignorant attitude, quote one forum moderator:

WordPress 3.0 will include 1.4.2, de-registering and adding your own is just totally pointless(seeing as that’s current).

Not quite, since some people need to use a pre 1.4.2 version.

Anyway to cut a long story short, here’s the Fix to Removing the Bundled jQuery that comes with WordPress:

Edit you’re themes functions.php

goto the end of the document and find ?>

before that paste:

if( !is_admin()){
wp_deregister_script('jquery');
}

Save, and upload.

And that’s it, you’re done.

Seems to have not hurt anything in the admin backend, but if you encounter any bugs or issues please let me know!

Also you can try this:

if( !is_admin()){
wp_deregister_script('jquery');
wp_register_script('jquery', (""), false, '');
wp_enqueue_script('jquery');
}

Wootheme Users

Open your functions.php file, find:

/*-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/
/* You can add custom functions below */
/*-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/

And paste:

if( !is_admin()){
wp_deregister_script('jquery');
wp_register_script('jquery', (""), false, '');
wp_enqueue_script('jquery');
}

Below it

Everyone at some point needs to have a sneaky little contact form in their sidebar, It’s a total ballache when customers want to be able to change it too.

So heres how we’re going to do this, what you’ll need is:

A WordPress Install

FTP Details (If plugins do not auto install)

A Contact Form Plugin (Contact Form 7 I’ll be using)

WP Hide Post Plugin

5 minutes of time

So we’re all ready? You will be kicking yourselves at how simple this will be.

First we install the plugins so:
Plugins > Add New > Search > Contact Form 7
Plugins > Add New > Search > WP Hide Post

And then install them.

Once you are done, click the new *Contact* button newly added to the bottom left of your wordpress nav.

After you have finished doing your shiny contact form copy the code.

It should look something like this:

[contact-form 1 "Contact form 1"]

Then goto:
Posts > Add New

Name it something like “SIDEBAR CONTACT FORM”
Paste your code in, on the WP Hide Post tick/cross all boxes to complete *hide* the post, and then click Publish as normal.

Hover over the post in the posts are to find its ID, ie
wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=12

So your post is #12 for this.

We need to then go here:

Appearance > Editor: Then Click on: Sidebar (sidebar.php)

This will load up your sidebar.php file.

You then need to insert this code wherever you wish to have it show (ie at the top then right after the first <div id/class>

<p>Contact Us</p>
<!-- p= your post ID for the Contact form -->
<?php query_posts('p=12'); if(have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
<?php the_content(); ?>
<?php endif; ?>
<br />

Save, and that’s it, you’re done.

You client can alter and amend this sidebar form as per usual, and leaves you with no nasty coding at all!

This way is tonnes better than people who use the same code but link to page, since the contact page may have other written content such as telephone numbers etc which you won’t want!

Enjoi!
